Missions is the heartbeat of God and the lifeblood of New Horizon Church. In 1983 New Horizon began to hold services in the Fife Community Center. It was a small beginning for many things. Included in the initial membership were two families that we were honored as a church to send out as missionaries – Ron and Shirley DeVore and Paula and David Mahawon. We have since become involved in the building of both of these missions, as well as supporting local ministries and our own New Horizon Outreaches.

At New Horizon we believe that spreading the gospel requires us to minister to the practical needs of humanity. We direct our mission efforts towards compassionate endeavors and community development. These include medical care, schools, orphanages, housing for widows, and feeding programs all over the world.

LOCAL MISSIONS

Fife | Food Bank

NHC Outreach is an integral part of our church. We have been involved in many homeless outreaches over the years. When Covid hit in 2020, we became an emergency food site for Pierce County, hosting a weekly food bank. We fed well over 100 families every week. This ministry continues today. As we pray with every person that comes through, we have seen salvations and miracles on a weekly basis. Our impact is deeply felt in the community every week.

Pierce County | Care Net

CareNet offers hope by providing compassionate practical care, accurate information, biblical truth, and life-affirming resources for pregnancy, sexual health and integrity, and abortion recovery. They are fiercely committed to the value and dignity of every life. Ninety-seven percent of it’s pregnant clients who have an ultrasound in CareNet centers choose life for their babies. To the three percent that do not, CareNet offers continued support. They are welcomed back to CareNet centers for additional services and resources, anytime they are needed.

Graham | Pacific Northwest Adult & Teen Challenge

Pacific Northwest Adult & Teen Challenge is a local branch of the Teen Challenge international ministry.  They have affected the lives of hundreds of addicts, freeing them from addiction by the power of Jesus Christ. Addicts and other troubled youth pour into the center and are delivered by God’s power. PNW Adult & Teen Challenge teaches that the key to abstinence from substance abuse is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Their success rate is unrivalled.

Puyallup | New Beginnings Homes

New Beginnings Homes is a mentorship based housing program for women facing crisis due to an unexpected pregnancy. For over 40 years New Beginnings Homes (NBH) has been providing housing and mentorship to over 600 young women experiencing unplanned pregnancy. It’s where a family (house parents) lives alongside the women, providing love, acceptance, and the guidance of a Godly example, to create a family of their own. NBH provides for all the needs of the pregnancy and birth. The ministry offers an aftercare program for single moms needing extra support to gain independence. We also give mothers who have lovingly chosen adoption a place to grieve and grow. The hope for all our residents is that they encounter Jesus, have healthy babies, and thrive in their futures!

INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS

AFRICA | WOMF

World Outreach Ministry Foundation (WOMF) was birthed in 1989 by two heroes of the faith, affectionately called Papa Ron and Mama Shirley DeVore. About the time they were considering moving to Africa, New Horizon Church was getting started in Fife. The DeVores came and helped get the startup church off the ground and then NHC was privileged to send them to Uganda. The DeVores partnered with a Ugandan named Steven Mayanja, and together they started Seguku Worship Center, located in the middle of the war torn country of Uganda under the Edi Amin regime. As peace finally returned to the country, the church grew with young people flocking to the hope of Jesus Christ.

THAILAND | TRUMPETS OF CHRIST

Trumpets of Christ International has been a ministry vehicle dedicated to reaching and educating the more than 30 million Shan or Tai people of Southeast Asia for the Lord.

Our mission is to present the Gospel and hope of Jesus Christ by ministering to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the people of Southeast Asia.

THAILAND | FAITH VILLAGE CHILDREN'S HOME

Faith Village was started in 1995 by David and Paula Mahawon. What started as a safe haven for rescued boy soldiers has grown to become a home and training ground for soldiers of the Lord! The team has raised over 200 boys and girls, teaching them about the love of Jesus and giving them hope for their futures. Faith Village houses orphaned, abused, or abandoned children, and gives them a Godly, family-like environment in which to grow. The staff oversees every aspect of a child’s life, including their physical, spiritual and educational needs, and emotional well-being. They also see them into their future, whether that be Bible school, university, vocational studies, or other pursuits.

THAILAND | VICTORY CHURCH

Victory Church is a Non Denominational Church in Thailand. In 2022, Shan and Lindsey have faith that the church and its team will continue to grow in impact on the next generation of Thais and other tribal groups in Chiang Mai. They plan to connect with more young people through outreach in the universities. They are praying for more God-connections to double in size! They believe God will use this church as a light in the darkness, in a city and nation that remains unreached, and desperately in need of Jesus!

INDIA | HANDS ON HOUSES

Hands on Houses is a project that builds houses for people who need them most – working alongside community leaders to provide local employment, develop construction skills and bring hope and dignity to communities in South India. Our current work is in villages south of Chennai, in the vicinity of Mamalapuram and Kalpakkam.
